Local Police

Prior to 1st April 2007 the Antrim Borough Council area was policed through Antrim District Command Unit (DCU) and was managed by its own District Commander. However from the 1st April 2007 the PSNI in Northern Ireland has restructured into 8 large District Command Units (DCUs).

The Antrim Borough Council area is now joined with Lisburn Council area, Newtownabbey Council area, and Carrickfergus Council area to make up one of the 8 new DCUs. This new policing area that Antrim is now part of is currently called "D District" (See map below).

The new District Commander for D District is Chief Superintendent Henry Irvine, based in Lisburn, and he is responsible for policing throughout the four Council areas of Antrim, Lisburn, Newtownabbey, and Carrickfergus.
