Local Police Performance

One of the main ongoing roles of Antrim DPP is to monitor local police performance against targets that have been set for crime reduction and crime prevention.

Antrim DPP does this in a number of ways.

Antrim DPP organises 4 Public Information meetings each year, and invites the most senior PSNI officer locally to come along, and in public report to the DPP on crime trends, what the Police are doing locally to detect and solve crime, and what the Police locally are doing to gain the support of members of the public, community and voluntary groups, and local business, in order to prevent crime.

At its monthly Management meetings the Members of the Antrim DPP receive an update report on crime trends and statistics from the PSNI, and any issues that the Members are aware of are raised with the Area Commander.

The Members of Antrim DPP will also monitor reports that may be published by other bodies, such as the NI Policing Board, or NISRA (Northern Ireland Statistical Research Agency), in relation to policing both locally and throughout the province.

Currently the Members of Antrim DPP are implementing an ambitious "community engagement" initiative, that will see the members contacting local community, voluntary, and statutory groups throughout the Borough, in order to set up meetings to visit and discuss with members of these groups any issues or concerns local people may have around policing.

These issues will be collated and discussed with the Area Commander to identify what corrective action needs to be taken to address these issues. If you would like the opportunity to discuss your concerns or ideas on the future of local policing, in confidence, then please contact the Antrim DPP Manager, Mr Patrick McKibbin.

Antrim DPP Members will then seek to identify and agree targets with the Area Commander of the local PSNI which will be included in the 2008-2009 Annual Policing Plan. During the course of the 2008-2009 financial year the DPP will monitor PSNI performance against the targets in the Policing Plan mentioned above.
