Format of Meetings

Ards DPP wishes to ensure that its meetings are friendly and as open as possible and that no one who wishes to attend feels discouraged or unwelcome. To that end a member of staff will greet and welcome you when you arrive and will provide you with an information pack about the meeting and its agenda.

Ards DPP has recently agreed that its meetings will have a particular theme examining issues of concern to residents of the Borough, such as, anti-social behaviour, domestic burglary, domestic violence etc. As part of these themed meetings persons with an interest or an expertise in the issue will be invited to make a presentation providing relevant information, advice and guidance. It is hoped that these themed events will prove of interest, stimulate discussion and ensure that the issue receives appropriate attention.

The date, time, locations and where appropriate the theme of a public meeting is advertised in advance through the display of information posters throughout the Borough, the distribution of leaflets, the publication of notices within the local press and on this web site. Click on calendar

The District Commander will also be asked to present his report on policing issues within the Borough such as crime/detection rates and updates on any specific issues of particular interest or concern to the local community. Furthermore every six months the Commander will provide a detailed report on policing of the Borough and in particular the progress that is being made to meet the published objectives and targets.

Ards DPP has also recently agreed that a person who has submitted a question will, following the response given by the Commander, be given an opportunity to ask a follow up or supplementary question. It is hope that this will provide an opportunity for people to seek clarification or raise a related additional issue if necessary.

The meetings normally start at 7.00pm, although this is subject to change, and last approximately two hours. The meetings are often held in local community centres throughout the Borough where car parking and disabled access is available.
