How to ask questions


Who can ask questions?

Questions are welcome from any person living or working in the City and District or any person directly affected by the policing of the City and District  

How do I ask a question?

There are several ways you can ask a question of the District Commander:

  • Come to a meeting in public and ask your question personally
  • Contact a DPP member and have them ask the question for you
  • Send in a written question which will be tabled at the next meeting in public. In order to ensure that questions are tabled at a DPP meeting in public they must be received in writing, fax or e-mail by the  DPP Manager at least ten working days before the date of the meeting.  Written questions will generally receive a more detailed answer than a question submitted at a meeting.

Information which cannot be provided

There are some information that cannot be provided at a meeting in public.  These questions fall under the following categories

  • It is in the interests of national security
  • It would endanger the security of one or more individuals
  • It relates to an individual and is of a sensitive personal nature
  • It involves information that the police are holding in confidence from another agency
  • It would, or would be likely to, prejudice proceedings which have been commenced in a court of law
  • It would, or would be likely to, prejudice the prevention or detection of crime or the apprehension or prosecution of offenders.
