Role of DPP

Introduction to Armagh District Policing Partnership

Amragh District Policing Partnership was formed following the Patten recommendations as a way of putting community at the heart of policing, and enabling the Police to be more accountable and responsive to the community and their concerns.

Armagh DPP was established in March 2003 and is a partnership between the Council and the community, that is independent of the Police.

Armagh DPP has many important respnsibilities, for example:

  • monitoring local Police performance
  • giving voice to community views on policing
  • establishing policing priorities

Armagh DPP does this in consultation with the Police Service of Northern Irelands (PSNIs) District Commander for Armagh District Command Unit (DCU).

Hearing the communitys views, concerns and policing needs enables the DPP to inform the District Commander and assist in the delivery of an effective and efficient service for the district.  Consulting with the community about local policing is therefore an important role for DPPs.

Functions of Armagh DPP

  • Provide views to the Police District Commander and to the Policing Board on any matter concerning the policing of the district
  • Monitor the performance of the Police in ehen carrying out the Annual Policing Plan and the Local Policing Plan for the district
  • Make arrangements for obtaining the views of the public about matters concerning the policing of the district,; gaining the publics co-operation with the Police in preventing crime; and to act as a general forum for discussion and consultation on matters affecting the policing of the district
