Working in Partnership to Prevent Crime

Working in Partnership to Prevent Crime

Section 16 of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 requires Ballymena DPP to seek the cooperation of the public with the Police in preventing crime.

It could be argued that all actions undertaken by the DPP should in the fullness of time, give the public the confidence to cooperate with the Police in the prevention of crime.

Until we reach that position we must engage in activities, which demonstrate the benefits of working in partnership to prevent crime.

It is for this reason that the DPP has facilitated a multi-agency sub-group with representatives from the Community Safety Partnership, the Town Centre Partnership and Ballymena PSNI District Command Unit.  The multi-agency sub-group agreed all crime prevention projects undertaken by the DPP and other agencies so that there was a joined-up approach to crime prevention initiatives in the Borough.

However, from July 2008 the DPP and the Police established two 'Partners and Community Together Forums', commonly referred to as PACTs: one PACT for Ballymena Town and another for the surrounding rural neighbourhood policing sectors.  The DPP will channel support i.e. funding and volunteers, where possible, to crime prevention projects that originate from the two PACT forums.
