Community Consultation

Community Consultation

In order to meet the legal requirement to; ‘Provide views to the police District Commander and to the Policing Board on any matter concerning the policing of the district’.  Ballymena DPP conducts community surveys and holds focus groups to find out the public’s views on the policing of the Borough.  The findings of the surveys and the focus groups are used in the production of the Ballymena DPPs annual Community Consultation Report.

The annual Community Consultation Report outlines the outcome of the various public consultation exercises and it also makes a number of recommendations for local policing priorities that would address the community's concerns.  The recommendations of the Community Consultation Report form the basis of the discussion between the DPP and Ballymena PSNI Area Command Unit on the priorities of next year's local policing plan, which is normally published each spring.

The DPP will normally convene a special meeting in December to consider the priorities for the next Local Policing Plan.  At this meeting the PSNI Area Commander will have an opportunity to appraise the recommendations of the DPP's Community Consultation Report with DPP Members, representatives of the Community Safety Partnership and PSNI Officers.  The aim of this engagement is for all parties to reach a consensus on the policing priorities for the next Local Policing Plan.
