Role of DPP

What is Banbridge District Policing Partnership?

Banbridge District Policing Partnership (Banbridge DPP) is a partnership between Banbridge District Council and representatives of the local community consisting of 9 elected councillors (Political Members) and 8 publicly appointed representatives of the local community (Independent Members). Banbridge DPP is one of 26 local District Policing Partnerships throughout Northern Ireland set up in March 2003 following recommendations made by the Independent Commission on Policing for Northern Ireland (Patten Report). Banbridge DPP is independent of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

What are the main responsibilities of Banbridge DPP?

  • Consult with the local community on local policing issues
  • Influence policing priorities and targets in the local Policing Plan
  • Gain the co-operation of the local community in working with the police to prevent crime
  • Act as a forum for discussion on matters affecting the policing of the District
  • Monitor the performance of the police against targets set out in the local Policing Plan

How will Banbridge DPP benefit you?

Banbridge DPP provides a unique opportunity to express your views on the policing of the District. The Partnership will also work with you and/or your community group/organisation to help the police in preventing crime across the District.

How can you shape local policing in the District?

If you live or work in the Banbridge District, you have a part to play in shaping local policing.  Your views will help members of Banbridge DPP to monitor the performance of the police against the annual targets set out in the local Policing Plan.  You can also influence the targets that are set in future local Policing Plans in this way.
