Role and Functions of Belfast District Policing Partnership and its Four Sub-Groups
The District Policing Partnership (DPP) is comprised of Political Representatives of the Council and Independent Representatives of the local community. Its main functions are:
- to provide views to the Police District Commanders and the Northern Ireland Policing Board on any matter concerning the policing of the City;
- to monitor the performance of the police in carrying out the Annual Policing Plan as it relates to the City and the local Policing Plans for the City;
- to make arrangements for obtaining the views of the public about matters concerning the policing of the City and for obtaining the co-operation of the public with the police in preventing crime; and
- to act as a general forum for discussion and consultation on matters affecting the policing of the City.
The Belfast DPP has also established four Sub-Groups - one for each of the Police Area Command Units - North, South, East and West Belfast. The function of a Sub-Group is to provide views to the Police Area Commander and to the DPP on any matter concerning the policing of the district for which they have been established. Each Sub-Group will hold four meetings in public per year.
