CPLC AWARENESS TRAINING DAY

On 25 November 2006 an event was held which brought together representatives from DPP, CSP, PSNI, NIHE and three CPLCs - Dundonald, Castlereagh and Carryduff.

The aim of the event was firstly to bring CPLCs together and by so doing to raise awareness of the work of the other agencies present.

There were presentations and workshops dealing with Domestic Burglary, Youths Causing Annoyance, Domestic Violence and Hate Crime.

The event was evaluated by the use of Quizdom, questionnaires and feedback from the workshops and provided a valuable opportunity to share ideals, isues and possible solutions from across the Borough.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

Are You Interested In Neighbourhood Watch?

Neighbourhood Watch is designed to enable local communities to work together, bringing greater comfort and reassurance to residents, as well as helping to improve quality of life and reduce the fear of crime.

The scheme is a simple model, which gives local communities an opportunity to actively contribute towards, and take some responsibility for making the area in which they live a safer place.

The aims are straightforward - to encourage people to be more observant of what is going on in their neighbourhood, to help each other and to bring their concerns and information about crime and anti-social behaviour to the attention of local Police.  By doing so, it has been shown to be possible to significantly improve home security, the environment and increase the sense of community spirit, thereby reducing the overall fear of crime in an area.

Neighbourhood Watch is a method of developing close liaison between households in a neighbourhood, the local police and other relevant agencies.

Castlereagh Police have recently appointed a Neighbourhood Watch Administrator, Sharon Skelly.  This post has been jointly funded by the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Policing Board and the Community Safety Partnership.

If you would like further information on becoming part of a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme within your area, please speak with your local Sector Police Officer or contact Sharon at Castlereagh Station on 90901201 or by e-mail sharon.skelly2@psni.pnn.police.uk
