Fun Day at Braniel
Saturday 21 June 2008 saw an afternoon of fun and activity at Braniel Community Centre and Church.
The event which marked the 50 year birthday of the church in the area, gave members of Castlereagh DPP a great opportunity to effectively market the work of the District Policing Partnership. Promotional items were handed out and members chatted with local people informing them of the functions of the DPP and what assistance the partnership could be to them.
There was also an opportunity to consult with residents about what they see as being the key crime areas in their locality, how they feel these are being tackled by police and also to express their perceptions of DPPs, CSPs and CPLCs.
Analysis of the feedback would indicate that the main areas of concern were the issue of Youths Causing Annoyance and Anti-social Behaviour in general and a high proportion of residents stated that they would like to see an increase in visability of police.
This was a very successful afternoon with Castlereagh District Policing Partnership gaining some valuable feedback from residents of the Braniel area

BEE SAFE EVENT GIVES GOOD SAFETY ADVICE
Primary 7 pupils from Castlereagh and East Belfast once again attended the annual BEE SAFE event held recently at Knock Presbyterian Church. Around 500 pupils from Cregagh, Loughview, Tullycarnet, Leadhill, Belvoir, Knockbreda, St Joseph's and Strandtown Primary Schools took part in the four-day event.
The multi-agency event involving the PSNI, Fire and Rescue Service, South and East Belfast Trust, Translink, NIE, The Blind Centre and Belfast City Council addressed issues such as personal safety, bullying, safety at home and other potential dangers that young people may encounter in their everyday lives.
Sergeant Trueick from the Community Safety Team at Castlereagh said "Children and young people need to know how to look after themselves and stay as safe as possible whether indoors or outside. Feeling confident to make the right decisions, know why it may be important to say 'no' in the right situation and how to get help if threatened are important skills that often needed to be reinforced'".
Constable Rab Gardiner, Schools Liaison Officer based at Castlereagh PSNI Station also stated that "Police continue to deliver the Citizen and Safety Education Programme (CASE) in schools across the Borough of Castlereagh. This programme again focuses on safety but introduces the principles of Citizenship and responsibilities for young people in both Primary and Secondary level education."
