Whilst the DPP holds the local PSNI to account and monitors their performance in addressing crime prevention and community safety issues the DPP also recognises that the wider community has a role to play in assisting the PSNI.

A key of the DPP, having identified local policing issues, is to engage the local community to co-operate with the PSNI in preventing crime. Primarily the DPP are doing this through awareness raising activities – for example roadshow events and forums. In addition the DPP are also supporting the initiation of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in the Borough and will be exploring a range of other means through which the local community and contribute to crime prevention.
