This website offers information on the work of Coleraine DPP - about the public meetings, the ongoing public consultation on policing in the Borough and the strategies that the DPP is working towards.

Overview of Coleraine Borough

Coleraine Borough covers an area of 190 square miles and according to the Census in 2001 has a population of 56,315 people.  A further breakdown of the Census demographics for the area show that 48% of the population are males and 52% are females.  

The Borough encompasses the coastal resorts of Portrush, Portstewart, Portballintrae, Downhill and Castlerock, the busy shopping town of Coleraine, and the small market towns of Kilrea and Garvagh.  It is home to the Headquarters campus of the University of Ulster with approximately 5000 students studying for full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The Northern Ireland Tourist Board website indicates that the Coleraine Borough had the second highest number of tourist trips in Northern Ireland in 2002 .  The website is based on a 3-year moving average for 2000-2002 and estimates that there were 325,600 trips to the Coleraine Borough, 1,224,200 nights spent in the Borough with a spend of £47.1 million.
