Role of DPP

Cookstown District Policing Partnership exists to act as the interface between communities resident in the district and local officers of the Police Service of Northern Ireland.  The Partnership aims to positively impact on the safety of all those working and residing within the district, thereby contributing to an enhanced quality of life for all.

Whilst the District Policing Partnership refers to the Code of Practice on Functions & Responsibilities and it's Standing Orders for the regulation of business, its legal role is detailed in the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000.

Part 3, Section 16 of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 details the core functions which the Partnership must undertake:

1.  To provide views to the District Commander on the Policing of the District

2.  To monitor the performance of the police in delivering the local policing plan

3.  To consult the public on the policing of the district

4.  To obtain the co-operation of the public in preventing crime

5.  To act as a forum for discussion on matters affecting local policing

The Partnership works closely with Cookstown District Command Unit of the Police Service of Northern Ireland and its corresponding Neighbourhood Policing Teams to ensure local communities are involved in the policing of their locality.
