Working in Partnership to Prevent Crime

To ensure the Partnership is focused on its functions, and is strategically working with the District Command Unit, the District Council and other local agencies a strategy is developed and implemented on an annual basis.  The overall aim of this strategy is to help the Partnership impact upon the overall crime levels within the district.

Whilst the strategy  for gaining the co-operation of the public to prevent crime reflects a series of targets under a number of themes reflective of the Partnership’s functions, it should be treated as one which can be amended and added to throughout the year.  This being the case, due to the fluid and changing nature of policing, specifically in relation to developing ways of assisting the police to achieve the targets set within local policing plans.

The objectives of the 2004/ 05 strategy for gaining the co-operation of the public to prevent crime include:-

Objective 1 To act as a Forum for discussion and debate on policing in the district
Objective 2 To monitor & assess police performance against the 2004/ 05 policing plan
Objective 3 To work in partnership and consult with agencies and communities to identify local policing concerns
Objective 4 To gain the co-operation of the public to prevent crime in areas detailed in the 2004/ 05 local policing plan
Objective 5 To raise the profile of the Partnership
Objective 6 To ensure the District Policing Partnership complies with the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 and the Code of Practice

A full copy of the 2004/ 05 strategy can be viewed in the Partnership’s 2003/ 2004 Annual Report.  The implementation of the 2004/05 strategy will be reported on in the 2004/ 2005 Annual Report.
