CRAIGAVON DISTRICT COMMAND UNIT

Craigavon District Command Unit (DCU) comprises three sectors: Portadown, Brownlow and Lurgan, with one station in each sector. It has responsibility for policing matters within the urban areas of Portadown, Brownlow and Lurgan as well as the rural areas of Aghagallon, Birches, Bleary, Derrymacash, Derrytrasna, Donaghcloney, Magheralin, Maghery and Waringstown

The 2004/2005 crime figures for Craigavon show that overall crime in the district has reduced by over 17%, with substantial decreases in the numbers of domestic burglaries, vehicle crimes and non-dwelling burglaries, and increases in the number of drug seizures and detections for driving whilst impaired through drink/drugs, detections for excess speed and dangerous and careless driving.

During the 2004-2005 financial year there were 23,640 incidents reported to the police in Craigavon DCU. Of these, only 5,594 were actual crimes.

The priorities in the local policing plan for the 05/06 year include; reducing the number of violent crimes, dealing with anti-social behaviour, improving crime investigation and detection in the areas of drugs and hate crimes, and improving road safety.
