Police Performance

At the Derry DPP Public Meetings the District Commander is required to provide a report on current crime statistics and any initiatives and programmes that have been implemented to reduce crime.  The District Commander also produces reports comparing six monthly and annual statistics with the same period for the previous year.

These reports enable the Partnership Members to access police performance in the following areas:

  • The steps that are being taken to progress policing with the communities as the core function of all police within the district.
  • The contribution the police are making to any community safety projects within the district.
  • Progress in achieving targets set out in the local Policing Plan and the Northern Ireland Policing Plan.
  • Progress in achieving targets relative to crime prevention in the district.

Over and above these meetings the Derry DPP holds monthly Private Meetings at which the District Commander provides crime statistics and is monitored by the Partnership on police success at reducing crime and improving members of the publics confidence in its police service.

At these meetings the Partnership Members monitor police performance in achieving both their local policing priorities and the Northern Ireland policing priorities.  The Partnership continues to consult with the public about the policing priorities for the local communities and plays an important role in monitoring the performance of the police against the objectives and targets set out in the local Policing Plan, and to ensure the deliverance of this plan.

Foyle District Command Unit Crime Statistics for 2003/2004

The Derry DPP has welcomed the positive results outlined in the crime statistics released by Foyle DCU for the year 1st April 2003 to 31st March 2004.  These figures give assurance about the levels of crime in the district and the positive impact the Partnership is having on policing within the communities.  The Partnership is extremely happy that there has been a significant reduction in five out of the nine crime categories.  This is the first year of existence of this extremely important initiative that was set up to make this district a safer place to live and work.  The figures reflect the positive role the Partnership is making in helping to reduce incidents of crime and increasing public confidence in policing.

The Partnership will also continue to play a crucially important role in monitoring police performance at a local level and will continue to make a real impact in shaping policing locally.  The whole community must recognise their responsibility to work in partnership with the police to deal with anti-social issues and support the police in bringing those who perpetrate crime to justice.
