Dungannon & S T

Chairman’s Welcome

I am very pleased to welcome you to Dungannon and South Tyrone District Policing Partnership’s (DPP's) website and hope that you find the content informative and useful.

Dungannon and South Tyrone DPP was first established in December 2004.  It is a partnership between Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, represented by nine Political Members, and the local community, represented by eight Independent Members.

Following the Northern Ireland (St Andrews Agreement) Act 2006, the DPP is currently undergoing a period of change.  The purpose of this legislation was to provide a one-off political fix to ensure that DPPs were representative of the communtiy and reflected the full political support for policing that has now been secured.  The Northern Ireland Policing Board is presently in the process of appointing Independent Members to the DPP.  New Political Members were appointed on 21 November 2007.

Under the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 (as amended) the role of Dungannon and South Tyrone DPP is to

  • Consult with the community to identify local policing issues of concern
  • Identify policing priorities for the local policing plan in conjunction with the District Commander for Dungannon and South Tyrone
  • Monitor police performance against the local and annual policing plans
  • Gain the co-operation of the public with the police in preventing crime
  • Act as a general forum for discussion on all matters affecting the policing of the Borough.
