FAQ
Who are we?
We are an independent body established by law and are composed of 19 Members – 10 Councillors appointed by Fermanagh District Council and 9 Independent Members appointed by the Northern Ireland Policing Board. The role of the DPP is to ensure that local policing reflects local needs and secure the best possible police service for the whole Fermanagh community.
How will we do this?
One aspect of our role is to consult with the community, to identify their political needs. These concerns and issues are brought to the District Commander for consideration and inclusion in the Local Policing Plan. The DPP also monitors local police performance and provides a forum for discussion on all aspects of crime and policing in the County.
What are the main roles and responsibilities of Fermanagh DPP?
- Consult with the community to find out what the local policing issues are;
- Assist in establishing priorities for inclusion in the Local Policing Plan and Annual Policing Plan;
- Monitor local police performance against targets in the Local Policing Plan and Annual Policing Plan as it relates to the district;
- Act as a general forum for consultation and discussion on all matters affecting the policing of Fermanagh;
- Develop practical ways of gaining the co-operation of the public with the police in preventing crime.
What benefits can the DPP bring to the Fermanagh Community?
Fermanagh DPP provides a unique opportunity to the Fermanagh community to voice their views and concerns on policing. It provides open access to local police command to ensure that questions and concerns are addressed and a mechanism to shape local policing to local needs. We will also work with you, your community or your group in helping to prevent crime in the County.
