Under the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000, local policing plans must be issued by District Commanders in the Police Service, setting out the proposed arrangement for the policing of the local police district.
The District Commander must consult with the District Policing Partnership when developing local plans and take into account the views expressed. The District Policing Partnership will influence the local policing plan by consulting and reflecting the views of local people to the District Commander.
District Policing Partnerships will also monitor the performance of the local police in their delivery of both the Northern Ireland Policing Plan as it relates to the District, and the local Policing Plan.
In November 2007, Fermanagh DPP completed an extensive consultation process and the District Commander was subsequently invited to use the findings in the preparation of his local policing plan. The Fermanagh PSNI local Policing Plan, published in March 2008, reflects the primary recommendations of the DPP’s Report.
