The DPP Consultation Report for 2007 identified six areas of criminality as being of concern – road deaths, violent crime, antisocial behaviour, burglary, theft and drugs.
In relation to crime levels, the DPP has concerns in relation to the falling detection levels and the continuing rise in violent crime.
Other areas identified through the consultation exercise are
- patrolling – there should be more uniformed patrols interacting with the community
- communication – the police should evaluate aspects of their strategy for communicating with the public
