Key Objectives

By virtue of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 (as amended), District Commanders in the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are required to issue local policing plans, setting out the proposed arrangements for the policing of their respective districts.

The local plans must be consistent with the policing plan issued by the Northern Ireland Policing Board (NIPB).

The District Commander must consult with the local District Policing Partnership (DPP) when developing local plans and take account of any views expressed.  The DPP will influence the local policing plan by consulting with and reflecting the views of local people in establishing policing priorities for the District.  These are then consolidated into a report.

When local policing priorities have been agreed the DPP will submit the report to the NIPB, the District Council and the District Commander.  The District Commander will be invited by the DPP to use the report in developing his own local Policing Plan.  The NIPB will consider the local plans, along with other relevant information, to establish priorities for their Northern Ireland Policing Plan.

The Fermanagh local Policing Plan for 2008/2009 has six target areas.

To Reduce Crime

  • reduce the level of violent crime
  • reduce domestic burglaries to fewer than 280 by 31 March 2009
  • reduce thefts to fewer than 700 by 31 March 2009

To Improve Crime Investigation

  • to increase the number of drug supply crime gangs frustrated, disrupted or dismantled
  • to reduce the incidences of anti social behaviour
  • to reduce the number of indicents of anti social behaviour by 5%

To Reduce Road Casualties

  • reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the road
