One of the most important aspects of the DPP's role is the legislative responsibility to monitor police performance against the targets set in the NIPB annual Policing Plan and the local Policing Plan.
This function is carried out at the quarterly DPP Monitoring Meetings in Public. At the monitoring meeting relating to the PSNI’s Annual Report for 2007/2008, Fermanagh DPP expressed concern at the rise in crime of 3.3% against a general Northern Ireland reduction in crime.
In Fermanagh volume crime rose by:
| criminal damage | - increased by 3.2% (29 offences) |
| theft | - increased by 3.4% (24 offences) |
| offences agains the person (assaults) | - increased by 2.1% (17 offences) |
Of concern to the Partnership was the continuing increase in Violent Crime (Offences Against the Person, Sexual Offences and Robbery) up by 2.9% or 25 offences. (Sexual Offences rose by 9.1% 4 offences and Offences Against the Person up by 2.1% 17 offences and robbery up by 30% 3 offences.)
The primary consideration of the DPP was a further increase in road injuries up from 348 to 394. There were 7 deaths (down from 16 in 06/07), 64 seriously injured (up from 55 in 06/07) and 323 slightly injured (up from 277 in 06/07)as a result of road traffic collisions.
The Partnership has challenged the local PSNI to address the big issues of road traffic collision factors, violent crime and antisocial behaviour.
The issues of violent crime and road traffic collisions are being addressed through targets in the Local Policing Plan.
