Members of the public are welcome to attend all meetings in public and to observe the District Commander as he makes his response to questions posed by DPP Members and members of the public.
Members of the public have a right to ask questions of the police through the Chairman of the DPP. The DPP welcomes questions from any person living or working in the County or any person directly affected by the policing of the District and there are several ways you can have your question raised at a public meeting.
Written questions submitted to the Secretary of the DPP will be raised at the next meeting in public and a response will be made at the meeting.
Questions may be asked verbally at the meeting but a written question submitted prior to the meeting will generally receive a more detailed response.
Alternatively, any member of the public or an organisation may choose to ask a Member of the DPP to raise an issue or ask a question on their behalf.
When a question has been raised at a meeting in public, and the author of the question is in attendance at the meeting, the Chairman may allow further ancillary questions to be asked if clarification is required.
As far as is practical, all questions received by the DPP will be presented to a meeting in public unless legal or other specific reasons prohibit presentation. However, there may be occasions when information is not held centrally and to provide a response would involve disproportionate cost. Where information requested cannot be provided for any reason the author of the question will be notified and the reason provided. A response may be forthcoming if the question is rephrased in more general terms.
If names and addresses are included, all written questions will be acknowledged and a copy of the District Commander’s response provided.
Written questions can be sent to the
