The aim of Neighbourhood Watch is to help people protect themselves and their property, to reduce the fear of crime and improve the local environment by:
- Improved home security
- Fostering community spirit
- Increased reporting of crimes.
- Promote the co-operation of the public with the police in prevention of crime.
Neighbourhood Watch is about developing close liaison within the local community, the police and other relevant agencies. The aim is to create an information loop between the police and the local community. The fundamental concept of Neighbourhood Watch is community driven, appropriately supported by police and other agencies as relevant. In the Northern Ireland context this involves close liaison with the Community Safety Partnerships and DPPs.
