Some 60,000 households across Northern Ireland were surveyed, 1,100 being from the Larne Borough area. The response vote from the survey was very encouraging with 32% of those surveyed submitting a return as compared to the national average of 28%.
Public perception as to the biggest problems were identified as:
- Paramilitary Activity-62% of all respondents
- Vandalism eg Graffiti-48% of all respondents
- Young People causing Annoyance-45% of all respondents
- Underage Drinking-41% of all respondents
- Domestic Burglary-39% of all respondents
Of those surveyed 71% of respondents expressed an opinion that the PSNI in the Borough should be concentrating most of its resources on Beat / Foot Patrolling.
In terms of satisfaction with Policing in Larne Borough 25% of those surveyed expressed satisfaction, 22% were dissatisfied whilst 41% were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.
The results of the survey played a major role in identifying local Policing priorities for the 2004 / 2005 Local Policing Plan.
