WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PUBLIC TO PREVENT CRIME
Lisburn District Policing Partnership (DPP) has developed a Strategy Document for 2003-2005, which sets out the aims and objectives of the Partnership during that period. One of the Strategy’s key priorities in working together to prevent crime and protect the public is to achieve public confidence and satisfaction in the work of the DPP.
To this end, Lisburn DPP will actively work towards obtaining the public’s co-operation and confidence in helping to create a safer community and the effective delivery of policing for everyone. The DPP understands that it cannot work in isolation towards achieving its aims and will actively continue to seek the views of citizens, groups and agencies on policing priorities for Lisburn. It will develop, in partnership with the local police, a Policing Plan for the City, against which Lisburn DPP will monitor police performance.
Community policing and the relationship which local police have with local communities is a key to the success of gaining the public’s confidence and respect in the delivery of local policing. The police cannot do this job by themselves, equally the local communities have a right to demand and expect a policing service which responds to local needs. Lisburn DPP will strive to achieve both; that is increased community policing and to work with the local community to reduce crime on the City’s streets.
In line with its role to work with the public to gain the public’s co-operation to prevent crime, Lisburn DPP has awarded five groups, who applied through an open competition, a grant of £400.00 to consult with the local police. These grants are in addition to the financial assistance given to Community Police Liaison Committees (CPLCs), which also work in partnership with the local police.
