Role of DPP

What is Moyle DPP?

Moyle DPP is a partnership between Moyle District Council and representatives of the local community; consisting of 8 elected members of the council and 7 independent members.

What are the main roles and responsibilities of Moyle DPP?

Moyle DPP has been established to:

  • Consult with the community to find out what local policing issues are;
  • Assist in the establishment of local policing priorities for the local policing plan, in conjunction with the local PSNI District Commander;
  • Act as a general forum for discussion and consultation on matters affecting the policing of Moyle;
  • Monitor the performance of the police against the local policing plan; and
  • Develop practical ways of gaining the public's cooperation in working with the police to prevent crime and protect the public.

How can the DPP bring benefits to Moyle?

The strength of Moyle DPP is that it provides a unique opportunity for local people to shape local policing. The DPP will provide a forum for local people to ask the local police District Commander questions on the policing of the district.

Obtaining the views of the public on matters concerning the policing of Moyle

Moyle DPP will consult with the community on an ongoing basis to find out what the main local policing issues are and obtain local views on the policing of the district. This will be achieved through a combination of the following methods:

  • A public consultation survey every two years;
  • Focus Group sessions to consolidate issues raised in the survey and at DPP meetings; and,
  • Ongoing consultations with local Community Police Liaison Committees (CPLCs) and other community groups/forums with an interest in the policing of their area and community safety in general.
  • The information obtained from consultation will be used as the basis for discussions between the police and the DPP to inform the local policing plan and set the targets for crime prevention in the district.
