Working in Partnership to Prevent Crime

Since the establishment of the DPP, Members have been engaged in dialogue with the communities that they represent to gain the co-operation of local people to work with the police in preventing crime.  Local people have regularly voiced their concern in respect of a multitude of policing issues, none more so than, for example anti-social behaviour and nuisance motoring.

As a result of the need to engage with local people the DPP set its operational plan which is reviewed annually.  In summary the operational plan will address the following aims and objectives:

Strategic Aim:‘gaining the co-operation of people in Moyle to work with the police in preventing crime: targeting violent crime, drugs/alcohol misuse’, careless motoring; antiscial behaviour..

  • To identify and bridge gaps in police/community contact
  • To support the development of police participation on local community associations and other relevant community organisations
  • To increase public participation and interest in DPP business, particularly public meetings
  • To support the development of existing working relationships between the DCU and key stakeholder organisations, for example:

           Schools and youth groups

           Churches

            Senior citizens groups

            Road safety committee

           Community relations committee

           CSF, and

           Other interest groups

  • To support and encourage the development and implementation of practical crime preventative measures in partnership with the DCU and CSF, having regard to the priorities for crime prevention in the district.

Following discussions with the District Commander the DPP agreed that the strategy should focus on the main crimes that will be addressed through the implementation of the local policing plan each year.
