Community Consultation

Consulting with the Community

A significant part of the DPP’s responsibility is to consult with the community to identify public perceptions in respect of local policing and crime and to determine what people think about the DPP itself.

To this end the work of the DPP, year-on-year, consists of the following three main components.

1.  Primary Consultation: which, on an annual basis, is undertaken by NISRA on behalf of the DPP.  The methodology is built around the construction and random distribution of a postal questionnaire to households in the Moyle area.

2.  Secondary Consultation: which is usually undertaken by consultants commissioned by the DPP to supplement the information that we get from primaary data sources.

3. Ongoing Consultations undertaken by the DPP: these are essential in providing further detail in respect of public attitudes/perceptions about the policing of the District.  Information in this case is generated through a combination of written questions, submitted to the DPP Chairman, and via consultations with local people, CPLCs and other community and consultative groups.

The main findings from the survey and research work undertaken by the DPP every year is documented in a comprehensive report, which is then used by the District Commander as the basis for discussions with the DPP to help produce the local policing plan for the year ahead.
