The DPP serves to identify the concerns of local residents through a number of area including public consultation and meetings in public of the partnership.
A survey involving statistical infromation from NISRA in 2008 and secondary consultation was undertaken by North Down DPP and the following prioritues were idenfitied.
- Anti social behaviour / youths causing annoyance / underage drinking
- Domestic burglary
- Roads policing
- Assaults
- Criminal damage
In terms of resources it was agreed that North Down District Command Unit resources should also focus on:
- Beat /Foot patrolling
- Prompt response to emergencies
- Crime prevention
- Investigating crime
- Increased involvement with young people
Areas of concern are also identified from questions submitted at meetings in public to which the District Commander responds.
Sample questions include:
- What is the situation regarding additional police resources in the Borough? Will we ever get back to the “bobby on the beat”?
- I have received three telephone calls in the last two weeks offering glittering prizes. To claim these prizes your are asked to send money, in some cases, a large sum of money, to a certain address. It is a recorded announcement and several residents have received these calls. Are the PSNI aware of this latest scam on the telephone and what are they doing about it?
- Can the District Commander provide an update on initiatives which have been put in place to combat speeding throughout the Borough of North Down given the number of fatalities and road traffic accidents which have occurred in the Borough?
