2005/2006 witnessed the launch of Sion Mills Neighbourhood Watch - the first ever Neighbourhood Watch Scheme to be established in Strabane District.

Co-ordinators of the scheme - Andrew Patton , William Harpur  and Mary McCrea state:

"Neighbourhood Watch involves neighbours looking after each other - keeping an eye on each other's houses while on holidays, watching out for suspicious activity, reducing burglaries, anti social behaviour and helping older people and the community feel safe in their homes.  Being a part of the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme is easy and there is little work for members to do.  It just means if local people need someone to keep an eye on their house when away on holidays, see something that is suspicious they have the option of contracting their local Co-ordinator. Co-ordinators will keep you informed, through leaflet drops for example, if there are crimes in the area so that you can protect your house, garage or car."
