Halloween Safety Event held in Sion Mills
Sion Mills Neighbourhood Watch Scheme hosted a Halloween Safety Event in the Parochial Hall, Sion Mills on Friday night (19.10.07). Approximately 50 young people attended to hear advice from the NI Fire & Rescue Service on the dangers associated with fireworks and bonfires and how to keep safe over the Halloween period.
Councillor Eugene McMenamin, Chairman of Strabane DPP welcomed the event stating “All too often in the run up to Halloween, we hear about people getting hurt or injured through the inappropriate use of fireworks and/or bonfires. Tonight’s event aimed to provide young people with advice on how to keep themselves safe over the Halloween period.”
Neighbourhood Watch Co-Ordinator, Andrew Patton explained: “The Co-ordinators of Sion Mills Neighbourhood Watch wants everyone to remain safe over the Halloween period. This includes elderly people who often feel afraid as bangers and fireworks are set off, or young people who may be injured using fireworks.”
Andrew urged the residents of Sion Mills to support the work of Neighbourhood Watch:
“Everyone has a role to play. People who attended this event were able to hear what they can do to ensure that everyone has a safe Halloween.”
Essentials, Sion Mills provided spot prizes for the event, which was also supported by Strabane District Policing Partnership (DPP) and Strabane Community Safety Partnership (CSP).
