The size of the District Policing Partnership (DPP) in terms of membership was determined at a meeting of Cookstown District Council in August 2002. With a Membership of 15 the DPP is a partnership between Cookstown District Council and representatives of the local community. All Members are from the district, possessing the essential local knowledge required to undertake their duties. Eight Members are nominated from Cookstown District Council whilst the remaining seven are community activists with a special interest in neighbourhood policing. Those Members which are nominated by Cookstown District Council are referred to as Elected Members, and those appointed by the Northern Ireland Policing Board are known as Independent Members. Any member of the public who is resident, or has an interest in the policing of the district may apply to become an Independent Member to serve for four years following the date of the local general election. The local DPP Manager or the Northern Ireland Policing Board can provide you with further information on this process. To ensure the Partnership is representative of the demographic profile of the district the Membership is drawn from all sections of the community, taking into account demographic statistics from census surveys.
